Public Engagement Advisory Board
Mairéad Hurley has 15 years experience in scientific research, education, and public engagement with science.
Following a PhD in astronomy, she obtained a teaching qualification and worked as a science and mathematics teacher in Ireland and Australia. She joined Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin in 2016 as European Projects Coordinator, where she later held the role of Head of Research & Learning. She is currently splits her time between two roles - she is a Research Fellow in the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin where she is part of the Science & Society research group led by Professor Joseph Roche. Her research is focused on public engagement with science and art, and informal STEAM learning. She is the Principal Investigator of SySTEM 2020, a Horizon 2020 funded project exploring science learning outside the classroom in 19 countries. In her other role, she is a Programme Manager for the STEM Teacher Internship Programme in DCU, led by Professors Eilish McLoughlin and Deirdre Butler. Mairéad is responsible for strategic development and programme impact and evaluation.
