Electrowriting in Tissue Engineering and Biofabrication – Tiny Fibers with Big Impact

Speaker: Tomasz Jüngst

Location: Biomedical Sciences Building, University of Galway

Date: Wednesday, 27th August 2025

Dr Tomasz Jüngst is a Junior Professor at the University Hospital Wuerzburg, focusing his research on bioprinting techniques and biofabrication of biomimetic vascular grafts and cardiovascular tissues. He studied nanostructural engineering at the University of Wuerzburg and did his Ph.D. at the Department for Functional Materials in Medicine and Dentistry, where he established and developed new 3D-printing methods for biofabrication and regenerative medicine.

His current research interests focus on advancing biofabrication technologies by converging existing fabrication methods, including extrusion bioprinting, melt electrowriting, and tomographic volumetric bioprinting, as well as the development of new techniques such as optical fiber-assisted printing. His research group focuses on cardiovascular applications and is, amongst other topics, developing small-diameter blood vessels through the combination of solution electrospinning and melt electrowriting.

Seminar is hosted by Andrew Daly.
