Speaker: Manuel Gomez-Florit
Location: Biomedical Sciences Building, University of Galway
Date: Thursday, 4th September 2025
Join Dr Manuel Gomez-Florit from the University of the Balearic Islands, Palma de Mallorca, Spain, for his seminar on cutting-edge approaches to regenerative medicine hosted by Meadhbh Brennan.
Dr Gomez-Florit earned his PhD in Cell Therapy and Tissue Engineering (2015) from the University of the Balearic Islands, Spain, which was awarded the summa cum laude and the European doctorate distinction. He completed postdoctoral research at the Department of Biomaterials, University of Oslo, Norway (2015-2016), and at the 3B’s Research Group, University of Minho, Portugal (2016-2022). Currently, he holds a tenure-track position at the Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands and serves as an Associate Professor at University of the Balearic Islands, Spain.
Throughout his career, Dr Gomez-Florit has actively pursued groundbreaking research in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. His work includes the development of bioactive biomaterials using platelet-derived biomolecules and regenerative strategies for musculoskeletal tissues, with a special focus on tendon regeneration. His recent studies focus on the application of extracellular vesicles derived from different cell types for musculoskeletal tissues regeneration.
Dr Gomez-Florit has been recognized with prestigious Grants from both the EU (MSCA-Individual Fellowship) and national funding bodies such as Portuguese Science Foundation (Junior Researcher) and Spain’s Carlos III Health Research Institute (Miguel Servet Researcher). He has been a principal investigator and core team member in multiple national and international projects and has fostered strong collaborative relationships within the research community.
