James Armstrong

Controlling the Assembly of Biomaterials and Engineered Tissues

Speaker: James Armstrong

Location: Biomedical Sciences Building, University of Galway

Date: Tuesday, 7th October 2025

We are pleased to welcome Dr James Armstrong, Associate Professor of Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering at Bristol Medical School, University of Bristol, for our upcoming seminar. Dr Armstrong’s research focuses on developing innovative bioengineering technologies to control the assembly of biomaterials and engineered tissues for in vitro modelling and regenerative medicine.

In this talk, he will discuss the use of high-frequency ultrasound to remotely pattern living cells into tuneable geometric arrays, advances in engineering 3D neurovascular tissues using bioprinting and complementary biomaterials, and his recent work on “coagulative granular hydrogels” for endogenous tissue repair. Dr Armstrong has published extensively in leading journals, holds multiple patents, and is co-founder of the Bristol spin-out company Impulsonics.
