Speaker: Meenal Datta
Location: Biomedical Sciences Building, University of Galway
Date: Friday, 12th June 2026
Meenal Datta is the Jane Schoelch DeFlorio Collegiate Professor and Associate Professor of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. She earned her PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Tufts University in 2018 and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital before joining Notre Dame in 2021.
Dr Datta directs the Tumour Immune Microenvironment & Mechanics (TIME) Lab (https://timelab.nd.edu), where her research focuses on the tumour microenvironment and the biophysical mechanisms that drive cancer progression and treatment resistance. Her work integrates engineering, immunology and mechanics to identify therapeutic strategies that improve treatment outcomes. Her lab also conducts cancer research in microgravity, including experiments aboard the International Space Station.
Her research has been supported by the NIH, NSF, AFOSR and other agencies, and she has received numerous honours, including the NIH R35 Early-Stage Investigator Award, NSF CAREER Award, AFOSR Young Investigator Program Award, BMES Rita Schaffer Young Investigator Award and ASME Rising Star of Mechanical Engineering Award.
The seminar is cohosted by CÚRAM and IHDI.
