Revisiting NKp46 in NK Cell Recognition of Cancer

Speaker: Fredrik Bergh Thorén

Location: Biomedical Sciences Building, University of Galway

Date: Friday, 8th May 2026

Fredrik Bergh Thorén is a professor of medical cell biology at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center and the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Institute of Biomedicine, University of Gothenburg. He received his PhD in 2007 for studies of cell death pathways in oxidant-exposed lymphocytes. He then carried out postdoctoral work in the laboratories of Professors Alessandro Moretta and Lorenzo Moretta at the University of Genoa, where he studied innate immune crosstalk between NK cells and neutrophils.

After returning to Sweden, he established an independent research program in translational NK cell biology. His current research centres on the molecular basis of NK cell recognition of cancer. His group combines functional genomics, receptor biology, and translational immunology to identify new mechanisms of tumour recognition and to develop next-generation NK cell–based immunotherapies.

The seminar is hosted by Aideen Ryan
