Carlijn Bouten

Material-driven in-situ tissue regeneration

Speaker: Carlijn Bouten

Location: Biomedical Sciences Building, University of Galway

Date: Tuesday, 1st April 2025

CÚRAM is pleased to welcome Professor Carlijn Bouten (Eindhoven University of Technology) for a seminar on cutting-edge cardiovascular tissue engineering.

Prof. Bouten’s research focuses on cell-free, biodegradable synthetic scaffolds to develop living heart valves and vessels. This talk will explore the challenges of designing scaffolds that function during implantation, guide tissue formation, and harness the body’s natural regenerative response. By integrating biomimetic in vitro models with in vivo small-animal studies, her work aims to optimise scaffold properties and advance clinical translation for patient-specific cardiovascular grafts.

A leading figure in tissue engineering and mechanobiology, Prof. Bouten heads the Soft Tissue Engineering & Mechanobiology research group and has led multiple international research consortia. Her work has received prestigious funding, including the ERC Advanced Grant and the SUMMIT grant for clinical translation in regenerative medicine.

Join us for this exciting discussion on the future of cardiovascular regeneration!
