May 5th 2025:
Together with Ardán, CÚRAM is delighted to announce a new Science on Screen animation commission for 2025!
The animator will make an animation based on a research project – ‘Saor Track’ by Professor Padraig Cantillon-Murphy – with a budget of €5,000, a duration of 50-60 seconds & 12 weeks to complete.
The animator will be provided with a draft script for the animation and will work with the research team to develop and produce the final piece, receiving feedback throughout the process from CÚRAM, Ardán, and the researcher.

CÚRAM’s public engagement programme provides opportunities for collaboration between our researchers and our public audiences, to create a better understanding and awareness of our research and its importance for society. We work with patients, artists, teachers, and community groups to reach and engage with a broad public audience. Each activity allows us to engage with audiences in different ways to maximise exposure to CÚRAM’s research.
Our ‘Science on Screen’ programme, run in partnership with Ardán (ardan.ie) aims to facilitate, promote and increase the inclusion of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) content in Irish film and TV production. CÚRAM provides funding and access to leading scientists to explore methods of scientific ‘story telling’ and to produce short films that incorporate current research at CÚRAM and its partners. These documentaries are freely available for community and educational screenings nationwide. A new animation strand, established in 2022 with support from Animation Ireland’s National Talent Academy, funds production of one minute animations that explain core scientific concepts and research project goals.
Ends.
