June 11th, 2026:
A landmark day for medical devices research in Ireland, and for everyone who has been part of the CÚRAM journey.
Yesterday, Minister James Lawless T.D. announced a €460 million Government investment in seven new national Rinn research centres.
We are immensely proud that the new €64.5 million Rinn Medical Devices Centre, led by Professor Abhay Pandit, will be hosted by University of Galway, building directly on over a decade of pioneering research and clinical breakthroughs from CÚRAM, the Research Ireland Centre for Medical Devices.
This milestone is the result of years of dedication and the collective commitment of hundreds of researchers, clinicians, industry partners, and staff who have given so much to CÚRAM since our establishment in 2015. To every single person who has been part of this centre, thank you.
We are deeply grateful to University of Galway for its steadfast support and leadership throughout CÚRAM’s journey, and for now stepping forward to host and champion Rinn Medical Devices as it begins its next chapter. The University’s decision to partner across all seven Rinn centres speaks volumes about the depth and breadth of research excellence in Galway.
Rinn Medical Devices will carry forward what CÚRAM has built, a world-class, patient-centred research ecosystem focused on healthy ageing, from cardiovascular disease to neurological conditions and cancer.
We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to colleagues across all six other newly launched Rinn centres. The ambition, collaboration, and talent on display yesterday gives us every reason to be excited about what comes next.
Many thanks also to Martin OHalloran, Barbara Oliveira, Luminate Medical, Manus Biggs and Eoin O’Cearbhaill for providing device prototypes for display at the launch, showcasing the innovation, engagement and talent of the medtech ecosystem in Ireland.
